Aperture, shutter speed and ISO explained
These three settings control exposure, but each also changes the look of the photograph.
Aperture
A wider aperture lets in more light and can blur the background. A narrower aperture keeps more of the scene sharp.
Shutter speed
A fast shutter freezes movement. A slow shutter can show motion but may require a tripod.
ISO
Higher ISO makes the image brighter but can introduce visible noise. Use the lowest practical value for the situation.
How they work together
Changing one setting often requires adjusting another. Practice by photographing the same scene with different combinations.
